About Kaarin

Kaarin Lysen, LMT

Owner/Operator of Stone Lake Massage

Kaarin (‘car-in’) Lysen,
Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT)
License Number: MA60471797
Pronouns: she/her

I earned my massage certificate from Northwest Academy for the Healing Arts and received my Massage Therapy license in 2014. I trained with Swan Perinatal Services and Family Massage for my Prenatal Massage certification.

I opened my practice, Stone Lake Massage, in Federal Way in 2023 because I felt it was time to get my practice going under it’s own name, and with the look and feel that I wanted. This area is very accommodating to small businesses like mine and the surrounding community contains many health-minded people, so this felt like a good fit. I currently offer full-body table massage from my office, and for a select and trusted group of clients, I offer this as a mobile service. I also offer event massage which I sometimes perform at the Federal Way Farmer’s Market. You may have also seen me and my massage chair at the Federal Way Community Center. Soon, I hope to take the next step in my massage journey, and begin sharing my skills with other aspiring massage therapists.

As a licensed massage therapist, I provide a wide array of therapeutic massage modalities, including perinatal massage (meaning prenatal massage and postpartum massage), sports massage, deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, trigger point therapy, intraoral (inside the mouth and jaw) massage, and myofascial release. I have worked with athletes of many stripes, IT professionals, expecting and new parents, drivers recovering from vehicle collisions, and people dealing with the side effects of other medical conditions. I combine an eclectic mix of these techniques, chosen and applied based on what your body needs. Every client has a unique life, body and set of symptoms, and that calls for a unique approach for every single person.

Before each massage, I take time to listen to my client’s concerns and understand their concerns. Your massage will always be about you, not a standardized routine spa treatment. During each massage, I seek out underlying issues causing your pain or discomfort, or limitations, then I eliminate problems at the source.

While massage may be considered an “alternative medicine”, I still base all of my methods on a scientific understanding of the human body. While I don’t discount the value of spiritual health, my practice puts medical understanding first.

Personal Life

Prior to learning massage, I went to Bennington College where my best stories are about musical performance. I’m an experienced musician and singer and I love a good karaoke bar, I’ve been an Enforcer at PAX, I love a good game night, and watching a concert from the edge of a mosh pit. All this adventure has brought me a wonderfully supportive and eclectic network of friends and family, and a beautiful dog named Sage.

In my personal life—setting my business aside—my health is my primary focus. I enjoy weight training, jiu-jitsu, swimming, and kickboxing. I ran for a while, but I can’t stand it these days. I also play cue sports like pool and snooker, and am a ranked player in the World Women’s Snooker Tournament. Recently, I’ve also become a certified kickboxing instructor.

Contrary to my first statement in this section, I’m also a brewing hobbyist. My home is littered with kegs of fruit wine, mead (honey wine), and bottles of jun (a fermented beverage like kombucha, but made using honey as a base). With luck, success in my massage business will give me the opportunity to build my dream business—a meadery; where I can brew and serve exciting flavors of meads to my wide array of friends. Maybe I’ll put a pool table in the back.
